Starting an agricultural or marine business is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Jersey’s rural economy while building a sustainable future. Before you get started, there are a few key things to consider:
Seek out available support to grow, innovate, and strengthen Jersey’s food and farming sector. These grants and funds provide opportunities for investment in sustainability, equipment, skills, and community projects.
The Rural Support Scheme (RSS) reflects the Government of Jersey’s commitment to strategic investing in our island’s primary producers. This vital support strengthens food security, fosters innovation, and helps preserve Jersey’s unique agricultural heritage, in line with the Rural Economic Framework (REF) 2022 priorities for Rural Support and Development.
The Agricultural Loan Fund aims to support farmers and agricultural businesses by providing essential financial support to drive growth, spark innovation and build resilience. The fund is committed to improving food security and strengthening both individual farmers and the wider agricultural community, helping to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future.

Jersey’s farming and fishing industries operate under comprehensive regulations that safeguard natural resources, ensure food safety, and promote sustainable practices. Covering land use, environmental protection, animal health, fisheries management, and product labelling, these rules help protect our ecosystems and support fair, transparent, and responsible businesses.
Certain areas of Jersey’s rural economy require specific licences or permits under local law. Understanding which apply to your business helps maintain the island’s high standards of safety, sustainability, and quality. Staying compliant ensures responsible operations and protects Jersey’s rural environment and reputation for excellence.
