How to get started

Starting an agricultural or marine business is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Jersey’s rural economy while building a sustainable future. Before you get started, there are a few key things to consider:

01

Speak to people

Whether it's dairy, arable farming, fishing, food production to niche markets such as horticulture or agri-tourism, take time to speak to people in the industry. Understanding market demand, opportunities, and challenges will help shape your business idea.

02

Build your business plan

Shape your concept into a practical business plan. Think about your goals, the products or services you’ll offer, your target market, costs and funding needs. A strong business plan is also crucial for securing financial support. This will help guide your decisions and support applications for licences or grants.
